New Online Campaignment Metric

Earlier this week performance marketing network Epic Advertising, formerly Azoogle, announced a new metric for measuring online marketing performance and is seeking a patent on the method for tracking. The company claims the metric, Called pCPM, showed a 60% increase in campaign value during its six month beta testing period. pCPM allows advertisers to track performance-marketing campaigns by measuring “induced visits” or visits to an advertiser’s site tracked beyond direct clicks. According to Epic, a visit to an advertiser’s site ... More

Online Marketing Potpourri

Because I’m feeling a little scattered today, this blog entry is a veritable potpourri of stuff. Google has opened its television ad program to all marketers. The company has been testing the TV Ads platform, which uses an auction model, since June of 2007. The analytics include how many seconds consumers were tuned into an ad (per impression) and how many consumers watched from start to finish. The program allows businesses to reach upwards of 13 million Dish Network ... More

No MicroHoo

Unless you were living under a rock this weekend you must have heard that one of the potentially largest deals in the technology sector fell apart. On Saturday, Microsoft withdrew its two month old bid to takeover Yahoo. The crux of the pullout was that Microsoft was only willing to pay $31 per share and Yahoo’s board of directors contended that the company was worth at least $35 per share. The failure of a deal to go through puts Microsoft in ... More

Web 2.0: The Affiliate Panel

I’ve spent much of the week at Web 2.0 Expo. Man, the show was good and very well attended. It was also super well organized. And the Blogtropul.us (a room for bloggers) was hopping with people streaming live, blogging, doing video and writing up real time accounts from the show. There was even yoga happening in there. The panel I was on (The Changing Landscape of Affiliate Marketing: Bloggers, Social Media, & Online Merchants ) was bright and early on ... More

Web 2.0 is Here

I’m finally recovered from last week’s Ad:Tech San Francisco madness. It was a great conference. Now, I’m prepping for this week’s onslaught of Web 2.0 Expo. There seems to be a huge buzz around this show. Everyone I talk with is eagerly anticipating the conference or maybe they are just hyped up about the many parties that are planned. Anyway, you slice it I expect this to be a fantastic week of schmoozing and learning more. If you’re attending the ... More

The Best Laid Plans

No matter how much I prepare each year for the Ad:Tech tsunami to hit San Francisco, I’m never truly ready. Weeks before the conference, I begin meticulously making out my schedule for each day – what companies I’ll meet with, what sessions to attend, which booths I promised to stopped by; and of course, which parties and events I need be at. I also try and get my real work done in advance knowing that I’ll be out of pocket ... More

Merchants Doing More Online with Less

Earlier this week the market researcher the e-tailing group put out its 7th annual Merchant Survey. The study reveals that merchants are taking a laser focused approach, doing more with less online and streamlining for performance and profitability. According to Lauren Freedman, president of the e-tailing group, "On all fronts we see a 'split personality' as some merchants aggressively pursue business online and across channels while others, with resource constraints, strive to do more with less," she says. "Merchants are making ... More

It’s Good People Day 08

Gary Vaynerchuk is just a bundle of warm fuzzies wrapped in ball of sunshine topped with a heaping helping of positive energy. I have no idea how he stays so upbeat but I’m trying to take a cue from him. I think we all could benefit from his outlook. Talk about the power of social media. Gary Vee declared Thursday April 3, 2008 to be Good People Day ... More

Don’t be a Fool

Today is a day of jokes, pranks, scams and other hijinx. I’m not going o attempt to pull the wool over your eyes. You’re too smart and I’m just not feeling that clever this morning. So, while everyone else is busy perpetrating trickery on this day, I’m simply going to pass on something worthwhile. It’s a 20 percent discount to attend Ad:Tech San Francisco later this month. No tom foolery here. Just 20 percent off the registration ... More
