Beginning on June 1 the state of New York will start charging taxes for online transactions to companies that have no physical presence in that state. There has been a lot of discussion about this issue, how it impacts affiliates and merchants, and whether or not these regulations might be adopted by other states.
All the parties impacted by the statute seem to be taking a different approach to the issue.
Amazon came out swinging earlier this month by filing suit ... More

I’ve been remiss in my blogging efforts. That means there is a lot to get to. So, on with it…
The big news today is that eBay announced today they are taking their U.S eBay and Half.com affiliate programs in house. EBay has been running its program on Commission Junction since 2001. However, about a year and a half ago eBay changed their links to their own tracking links using rover.ebay.com, so it was just a matter of time before the ... More

Former Commission Junction executive turned super affiliate Scott Jangro just posted that CJ has named Kerri Pollard as the affiliate network's new general manager.
Back in July there was speculation surrounding who would be named general manager of the company. That was laid to rest when CJ made an official announcement that it would split some of the duties between Dave Osman and Pollard, who recently left the Boston area to move closer to CJ's headquarters in Santa ... The last couple of days have been busy. We sent the Nov./Dec. issue of Revenue to the printer on Thursday and then I headed off to ShareASale ThinkTank in Scottsdale, Arizona Friday morning.
I did not attend the first ThinkTank, held last year in Las Vegas. But I feel privileged to have been among the 80 invited guests at this fantastic event, which was an incredible meeting of affiliates and merchants.
Held at a gorgeous resort, ThinkTank was ... More

It was my only my second time attending CJU, but there were many in attendance that were seasoned veterans of the event. This was Commission Junction’s 9th annual conference and each year it’s gotten bigger and bigger. In fact, CJ execs said the event has pretty much maxed out the lovely accommodations at the Fess Parker Hotel and Resort. I hope CJ finds a way to get around the capacity issue and continue to hold CJU in beautiful ... More

So much to talk about from the CJU event, but so little time to write it all down. I’m tired from all the great networking so, I’ll try and keep it short and sweet.
Day one CJU: The keynote (Greg Smith, COO, Neo@Ogilvy North America) was good but a little old school for me. Too many references to TV and old agency talk. For me, it was not geared enough towards affiliates and there was very little understanding of PPC affiliates. ... More

There are so many loose ends to tie up before taking for Commission Junction University. I’m driving down toward Santa Barbara tomorrow and we are planning lots of stops along the way so I expect to arrive on Saturday. That should be when the affiliate fun starts.
Over the course of three days there are all kinds of events planned but the ones I’m looking forward to the most include a bowling party sponsored by Yahoo, the Affiliate Dinner ... More

With the long weekend behind me now I can focus on the long weekend ahead of me.
That’s because I’m taking Friday off to drive down to Santa Barbara for CJU, which kicks off on Sunday.
I’m not sure which part of the trip I’m more excited about - the gorgeous drive down the California coast or the actual Commission Junction event. I’ve done this trip a handful of times and had memorable experiences each and every ... More

I nearly forgot about blogging all week. I’d love to blame it on this huge deadline I’ve been facing, but I think it might be more about all the time I’ve been spending on Twitter and Facebook. I’m constantly sending and receiving information via both of those applications - as well as IM and email - so I’ve felt like I’ve already communicated most of my thoughts for the week (well, at least those that are PG or work-related).
But ... More

If you stopped by the Revenue booth at the Affiliate Summit in Miami you know we were passing out advance copies of the Web Crawler column written by the Spider. We were giving the column to those who filled out a qualification card for a free subscription to the magazine.
That Spider column will appear in the July-August issue of Revenue, which is on its way to you as I type this entry. What might have also noticed is that ... More
