I took a 450 mile road trip down to Camarillo, Calif. in the middle of last week. There’s nothing like a long drive to clear your head. I find it relaxing to hit the open road (although, that was before I reached the Los Angeles area later in the week).
I had several items on my agenda for the trip – to rent a car that I might consider purchasing in the future (a Toyota Prius); to try and ... More

Tomorrow is Valentine’s Day. I hope you already got some gifts for your sweetie. If not, what the heck are you waiting for? So, once that very important task is out of the way you can move on to sharing your love and appreciation with others.
Here are some simple ideas for spreading the love. And each should take you only about 10 minutes. That’s not much time to make someone feel special.
For Affiliates:
*Take 10 minutes out of your day to ... More

I have a full plate this week, so let’s get right to it.
The LinkShare Summit is being held later this week in San Francisco. I love when the performance marketing folks converge on my home turf. Too bad, the weather is not cooperating. Oh well, I still expect the event to be packed with good information, have the chance to strengthen old relationships, make some great new connections and have lots of dinner and drinks with a great ... The location for Affiliate Summit East 2008 has been set. I’m delighted to be going to Boston for the conference and with a little luck maybe my “World Champion” Boston Red Sox will be playing at Fenway Park, which would make my trip back home even sweeter.
Check out this contest to win a free pass to Affiliate Summit.
And unless you’ve been living under a rock all week you know that Microsoft made an investment in Facebook. The ... More

I’m rushing to get everything off my plate so I can head off the ShareASale’s ThinkTank conference in Scottsdale. When I saw the list of 80 or so attendees and the agenda I was really excited about the gathering of SAS affiliates and merchants. However, my excitement level rose even higher when I found out there might be some Texas Hold ‘Em played in a suite at the hotel on Saturday night. I’m no Jean-Robert, but I think I ... More

Has it been that long since I’ve actually written a blog? I guess so. I’ve been busy writing, editing and pulling together the November/December issue of Revenue. We send it to the printer this week, so it’s been crazy.
Yesterday I finished up (way past deadline) my Affiliate Advantage profile of super affiliate Scott Jangro, president of MechMedia. Whenever I write a longer piece (not a blog or editor’s letter, etc.) I have a very specific process. I ... More

I just watched the Next Internet Millionaire (episode #7). It was a continuation of last week’s challenge and yes, someone does go home after a pathetic showing in the attempt to sell goods on eBay.
The good news is that the claws are coming out a little more and some people are definitely playing the game more strategically (a la Survivor) than others.
Search marketing expert Kris Jones, the CEO of PepperJam, was the guest speaker. He was ... More

Today’s Wall St. Journal has an article about what Jay Berkowitz, CEO of Ten Golden Rules, an Internet marketing agency based in Boca Raton, Fla., is reading and listening to. Guess what? Jay apparently is a fan of the Affiliate Thing podcast hosted by Shawn Collins and myself. Thanks Jay. Check out what else has captured Jay’s attention.
I’ll be hosting the Affiliate Thing solo this week (and have a very special surprise guest) as Shawn Collins heads ... More
