Everyone is talking about social media again this week. Some are still buzzing about the great Social Media Marketing Summit, which Revenue was involved in organizing last week. Then, this past Sunday, there was the Affiliate Summit: Social Marketing 2008, a one-day event in New York City. I couldn’t make it to the event, but heard it was information packed and fun. And next week, Federated Media and John Battelle are hosting the Conversational Media Summit ... More

I’m finally able look up for more than two minutes this week. That means that cleaning off my desk and my cleaning out my inbox before the big three-day weekend. Here are some things I found during my frenzy that I thought I’d share.
New Home
The Affiliate Thing podcast co-hosted by Shawn Collins and I has a new home. Starting today, you can now listen to the full 30 minute show at GeekCast.FM. It’s still the same affiliate-focused content ... More

Nearly everything I’m doing and thinking about this week is focused on Affiliate Summit East 2008. For me, it’s not just preparing for the actual event, but the whole experience of going to back to Boston for the first time in two years. Plus, I’m taking a very short vacation to visit with my family in Western Massachusetts after the show.
I miss Massachusetts (don’t tell all my San Francisco pals) so I plan to pack as much fun ... More

I used to be able to count on one hand the must-attend shows and conferences related to online marketing for a given year. Plotting out my travel schedule wasn’t much trouble and there wasn’t really any overlap among shows. And for the most part I was also able to tack on a few personal and vacation days to most of my trips in order to simulate actually having a “vacation”.
Things are not that easy anymore. Each month there are ... More

I like to use events as milestones to get things. Lots of times I’ll just pick a show or conference and decided that I must have X,Y, and Z all finished before, say, Affiliate Summit in Boston. When I initially make the plan, the event always seems so far off – giving me plenty of time to plow through the long list of must-do’s. But along the way other things crop up, I get sidetracked, or I find some other ... More

Today is Good Friday and so far the day has lived up to its name. If for nothing else than I'm only hours away from it being the weekend.
Truthfully, the reason that it's been such a good day for me is that I'm spending lots of time playing with my new ASUS eee PC. Shawn Collins may be touting the value of his Vostro but I love, love, love my new tiny little laptop.
I first heard of the ... More

There was a thread on the affiliate forum ABestWeb.com about first timers’ experiences at the Affiliate Summit. I was sorry to hear that not everyone had a completely pleasant experience at the event. Many pointed out that they felt there were many people whom they wanted to meet but felt were unapproachable. Most people singled out responded on the forum that had someone come up to them they would have been glad to chat. In many case, these people ... More

You know the slogan: “What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas.” Not true if you’re dealing with more than 3,000 attendees of Affiliate Summit this past week. There are plenty of blogs (mine included), Tweets, Flickr pictures and hopefully some video to help you feel like you were there or relive the fun.
The twice-yearly affiliate gathering was a raging success thanks to the hard work of co-founder Missy Ward and Shawn Collins (and their hard working team – ... More

Keynote speaker Jason Calacanis kicked off the official part of Affiliate Summit’s program track on Monday. The controversial blogger and Internet entrepreneur stirred things up a bit by focusing on the part of affiliate marketing that has a reputation for perpetrating tactics perceived by the mainstream market as spamming or not providing any value. This seemed to rankle some in the audience, but also drew praise from those that felt the brutally honest outside look at the industry was much ... More

The Affiliate Summit in Las Vegas is huge. I can’t believe that yesterday’s Meet Market hall had more than 100 exhibitors – and that’s not even the exhibit hall floor, which doesn’t open until today. There are expected to be more than 2,700 attendees – a big portion of them affiliates not just merchants, network types and vendors.
The weekend was packed with networking. For me, I spent lots of time with old friends and got to meet so many ... More
