Online Marketing Potpourri

May 7th, 2008

Because I’m feeling a little scattered today, this blog entry is a veritable potpourri of stuff.

Google has opened its television ad program to all marketers. The company has been testing the TV Ads platform, which uses an auction model, since June of 2007. The analytics include how many seconds consumers were tuned into an ad (per impression) and how many consumers watched from start to finish. The program allows businesses to reach upwards of 13 million Dish Network households from 94 different cable networks.

Web 2.0: The Affiliate Panel

April 25th, 2008

I’ve spent much of the week at Web 2.0 Expo. Man, the show was good and very well attended. It was also super well organized. And the Blogtropul.us (a room for bloggers) was hopping with people streaming live, blogging, doing video and writing up real time accounts from the show. There was even yoga happening in there.

The Best Laid Plans

April 14th, 2008

No matter how much I prepare each year for the Ad:Tech tsunami to hit San Francisco, I’m never truly ready. Weeks before the conference, I begin meticulously making out my schedule for each day – what companies I’ll meet with, what sessions to attend, which booths I promised to stopped by; and of course, which parties and events I need be at.

There are lots of people pushing the video blogging envelope in the online marketing space - Sam Harrelson, Mark Wielgus, Jim Kukral, Shawn Collins and many others. What you should note about this list is not that most of these folks are well known in the online marketing industry (they are) but that they are men.

February 13th, 2008

Tomorrow is Valentine’s Day. I hope you already got some gifts for your sweetie. If not, what the heck are you waiting for? So, once that very important task is out of the way you can move on to sharing your love and appreciation with others.

Here are some simple ideas for spreading the love. And each should take you only about 10 minutes. That’s not much time to make someone feel special.

My First Social Media Birthday

February 7th, 2008

Yesterday was my birthday and for weeks I was totally dreading it. Recently my personal life has been turned upside down. The thought of celebrating yet another year just didn’t feel right (or even possible) given that it’s been difficult to muster up a smile most days.

However, the day turned out to be a pretty good one because of my involvement with social media. Celebratory wishes, good vibes and of course “humor” about my advancing age poured in via Facebook, Twitter, IM, several forums I’m active in, and email – and in the form of video.
