Best in Show

By Lisa Picarille

July 23rd, 2008

I used to be able to count on one hand the must-attend shows and conferences related to online marketing for a given year. Plotting out my travel schedule wasn’t much trouble and there wasn’t really any overlap among shows. And for the most part I was also able to tack on a few personal and vacation days to most of my trips in order to simulate actually having a “vacation”.

Things are not that easy anymore. Each month there are a handful of shows that I really want to attend. Unfortunately, I can’t make it to every one. I’d love to but my boss probably wouldn’t like it too much. I always feel like I’m missing out on something big.

Currently, I’m focusing a lot of my efforts on getting ready for Affiliate Summit East in Boston, which also includes a trip to see my family in Western Massachusetts. Most of this is logistical stuff, because I waited a little too long to get a flight, book a rental car and other details.

I used to be able to put things off, but those days are gone. My newly self-imposed zero tolerance procrastination policy has me planning out my travel schedule for the rest of the year. It looks like San Jose in August for SES. September will be CJU in Santa Barbara and BlogWorld & New Media Expo in Vegas. October is Online Market World in San Francisco (thankfully, no travel involved for that one) and then onto New York for Ad:Tech in November. There are some other smaller shows and events during that time as well.

And since, I’m feeling generous today, I’m extending a 20 percent BlogWorld Expo discount to Revenue readers. Just use the code REVVIP and get 20 percent off your registration for exhibits; exhibits + party; full access; and exhibitor & entrepreneur attendance packages. The normal discount pricing expires August 22, so you can use the special Revenue REVVIP code to save 20 percent off the already discounted price, if you hurry.

By the way, I’d love to hear about what shows you’ll be attending for the rest of year. And, let me know if the current economic situation has impacted your business travel plans.
