People Make the Affiliate Summit

By Lisa Picarille

July 20th, 2007

I’ve been tagged by Sam Harrelson to share the Five Things I Learned Affiliate Summit. Anik Singal of Affiliate Classroom started this meme.

For me this event was really about the people in the industry. So here’s what I learned:

1. ShareASale and ABestWeb.com throw one hell of a party. But I guess I already knew that. That fact was simply reconfirmed.

2. The ladies of affiliate marketing (Missy Ward, Connie Berg, Ann Fognano, Deb Carney, Carolyn Tang, Kristin Collier, Heather Paulson, etc.) are amazingly smart people that understand commissions, conversions and clicks. Plus, they are all very, very cool chicks.

3. I also learned all about celestial navigation during a totally fascinating chat at the ShareASale party. Thanks, Pat! You really do need to write a book about your grandfather and this interesting topic.

4. Never to underestimate the power of a face-to-face connection.

5. This industry is filled with people that really, truly LOVE their jobs. How cool is that?

Now I’m tagging Connie Berg, Brian Littleton, Jess Luthi, and Larry Adams.

    Hey Lisa -

I totally agree with you. It’s funny - I get lots of people that tell me to my face that I’m insane for giving away the videos of the sessions.

Not only am I leaving money on the table, they say, but it will cannibalize the attendance at the shows.

I disagree. The education is a strong facet of the show, but the relationships and interactions are not possible to duplicate online.

And yeah, we could sell some fancy DVD package. So what. That’s boring to me.

I enjoy building and marketing the conference, and I’d like to see the speakers, who put so much time and energy into their content, get as wide an audience as possible.

Not to mention that there are so many newbies that don’t have big bucks to risk on learning materials.

If the free access to this educational material brings a few more strong affiliate marketers into the fold, I’ll be paid in the delight in having helped a little.

    P.S.

I already tagged Brian and Jess for this thing yesterday. :-P

    Hello Lisa,

Thanks for the positive comments concerning woman in the eCommerce space, it has been a long road for a lot of us tech girls who had to prove ourselves many times over in this career field.

It was also a pleasure to have met you in Miami and I look forward to seeing you again.
