Internet Marketing: The Reality Show

By Lisa Picarille

May 15th, 2007

There are so many things going on that it’s hard to focus when on writing this blog. So, here are a bunch of random, jumbled things that vying for my attention:

We’re heads down grinding out the next issue. There are many interesting stories in the works including ones on CRM, the ringtone market, the resurgence of email marketing, behavioral targeting, and what non-profits are doing in the performance marketing arena. Check here for full story descriptions and how to get your point of view included.

Meanwhile, I’ve been spending a huge amount of time looking at various sites - both online marketing related and not - on the Web that use video. While I’m not a huge fan of watching video on the Net (it makes me feel like I’m watching TV and we’re not supposed to be doing that at work, right?) I really admire those Internet marketers that have taken the plunge to include video in new and interesting ways. Shawn Collins is one of those.

I’ve been thinking about the myriad of ways we could leverage video on the Revenue site and this weekend I took the plunge and purchased a digital video camera. I’m still familiarizing myself with the equipment and waiting for FedEx to deliver my video editing software before I post anything. Expect something later this week.

And if being a video star just isn’t enough for you, there’s a new TV show (a la the Apprentice and The Benefactor) called the Next Internet Millionaire. The show, which is casting for contestant right now, is billed as the “First Ever Internet Marketing Reality Show.”

But instead of working with Donald Trump or Mark Cuban, a dozen contestants will compete for $25,000 and a chance to be in a joint venture with Joel Comm, who sold a site to Yahoo and wrote a New York Times Best Seller called The AdSense Code. I can’t wait to see it anyone I know makes the cut.
