Google bought DoubleClick for $3.1 billion. Yeah, by now you already know. I would have posted something sooner but I was too busy trying to get the magazine out the door to the printer. This was close to “stop the presses” moment. Friday the 13th. Wouldn’t you know it? Darn Google.
The lead story in our business section was about how Microsoft was interested in buying DoubleClick. Yikes. That would have been a huge gaff considering that by the time the issue comes out in mid-May, the Google acquisition of DoubleClick would have already been way old news.
Anyway, thanks to the hustle of Senior Writer Alexandra Wharton, we were able to plug in a short blurb about Google and DoubleClick. There wasn’t much time to get industry reaction, so we’ll deal with that here online.
Next week, I’ll have Alex gather up the reaction and post it here. So stay tuned. Or if you want to let me know what you think about the behemoth this creates, drop me a line. Does it have the potential to create an online advertising monopoly? I want to hear your thoughts. lisap@revenuetoday.com
