Ad:Tech SF is officially over and I couldn’t be happier. Not that I didn’t enjoy my 20-plus hours days for four straight days this week, but frankly I’m not 27 any more (nor have I been for a while).
Thursday afternoon I was pretty wiped out and completely on overload about interacting with online marketing folks. That all changed when a fresh-faced online marketer approached my Affiliate Thing co-host Shawn Collins, while a bunch of us were hanging out in the Affiliate Summit booth celebrating Shawn’s birthday and the end of the conference.
Day two of Ad:Tech and I’m still alive – barely. This has been a tough week here in the Internet Aquarium. I have met with so many people, attended lots of sessions and walked the floors a little bit. It’s all a crowded, buzzing haze of excitement.
As promised, here is another online marketer that loves dogs. Affiliate marketer Mark Davidson of Oaxaca, Mexico wanted to show off the canine cutie (with two reconstructed knees) that helps keep him on track. She’s adorable. Plus she looks sort of like my dog, Cassie.
It’s all about Ad:Tech this week – plenty of meetings, cocktail parties, sessions, panels, podcasting and schmoozing. For about a week I’ve been gearing up for the show, which starts Tuesday. And while I anticipated seeing lots of familiar faces all throughout this week, I wasn’t expecting to see any over the weekend.
However, as I was celebrating the 60th birthday of the grandfather of punk on Saturday night at the Warfield Theater, I ran into Todd Crawford and his lovely wife, Lisa. The Affiliate Summit Legend award winner, who is the VP of sales and business development for Digital River’s oneNetwork, came into SF early to see Iggy and the Stooges prior to attending Ad:Tech. Todd is also one of the featured interviews in the upcoming May/June issue of Revenue.
It seems like everyone I know has a canine pal. At the Web 2.0 Expo several of my lunch companions whipped out their laptops and started showing pics of their pups when the doggie discussion started. So, I’d like to show off to everyone my best pal – Cassie. She’s 14 years young and we rescued her more than four years ago.
Sorry for the lag time in posting about the Web 2.0 Expo. I’ve got Mom 1.0 visiting for the week from the East Coast and in between the world of widgets and work there was a visit to wine country.
So, the Web 2.0 show held here in lovely San Francisco was teaming with people. There were more than 14,000 attendees and the level of buzz and excitement was infectious. I also spotted many folks reading Revenue Magazine (we were a media partner).
Unless you live under a rock, you’ve probably have heard that Google announced last Friday (the 13th) plans to acquire DoubleClick. The price, a whopping $3.1 billion, is 10 times the multiple of DoubleClick’s revenue and is almost double the price Google paid for YouTube. Also, just two days before the deal was announced the whisper number on Wall Street for a purchase of DoubleClick was only $2 billion.
At the Web 2.0 Expo in San Francisco on Tuesday, John Battelle, chairman of Federate Media chairman and author of the book The Search: How Google and Its Rivals Rewrote the Rules of Business and Transformed our Culture, interviewed Google CEO Eric Schmidt. And here’s what Schmidt had to say about the deal price to acquire DoubleClick.
Google bought DoubleClick for $3.1 billion. Yeah, by now you already know. I would have posted something sooner but I was too busy trying to get the magazine out the door to the printer. This was close to “stop the presses” moment. Friday the 13th. Wouldn’t you know it? Darn Google.
The May/June issue of Revenue is going to the printer today so no time for sleep or anything else let alone blogging. So this will be short and sweet with some random things that I think might be of interest to you. Actually, they are not so random - the common theme is Shawn Collins. For some reason after hearing his rendition of the Big Mouth Strikes Again by the Smiths I was mesmerized or something like that. Anywhoo…
*If you’re an affiliate and wondering how to use video check out Shawn Collins’ new site dedicated to this very topic.
Next week on the Affiliate Thing my co-host Shawn Collins and I will be talking with Tara Hunt, an online marketing expert. She’s got a great blog (with a great name) and we’ll be talking with her about Pinko Marketing, scalable relationship building, why PR doesn’t work, and what particular companies that are doing interesting marketing things. We’ll also be chatting about the regular weekly affiliate happenings. Tune in. You can also check out other interview from this week with Converseon CEO Rob Key.
